It took me over 5 years to finally hit my first $100K year as an online coach… and it was all because of one huge mistake I didn’t even realize I was making.
But once I fixed it, everything changed.
I started consistently hitting $10k months… working less than 20 hours a week… and actually enjoying my business again.
So in this video, I’m going to show you:
What that costly mistake was
Why it kept me stuck for years
And how you can avoid it to grow your online coaching business faster
Have you ever had one of those days where you feel like you worked all day… but somehow got nothing important done?
That’s the trap most online coaches live in—I did for years.
Typically, a coach wakes up, checks their phone, sees they need to post on Instagram…
Then TikTok… maybe try YouTube Shorts… update their website… tweak their email funnel… respond to comments… and oh—should we do a rebrand?
By the end of the day, they’ve checked a hundred boxes. But their bank account hasn’t moved.
Why?
Because they’re mistaking movement for progress.
It's like running on a treadmill—they’re working hard, but they’re not going anywhere.
So the big mistake that cost me hundreds of thousands of dollars and that I now help other coaches avoid in their coaching business is this:
Trying to do everything instead of focusing on the right things.
To grow a profitable and sustainable coaching business, you’ve got to work at producing results. It's LITERALLY in the word “productive.”
If your goal is to get clients and fill your coaching program… but you’re too busy tweaking Canva graphics, hunting for "viral content ideas", and avoiding the real work of meeting and inviting clients into your coaching offer…
How are you ever going to grow your online coaching business?
If that’s your goal, none of those surface-level tasks matter because you’re not building real relationships, making clear offers, or helping people get results.
But most coaches avoid the hard stuff:
Starting conversations
Inviting people into their offers
Following up without being awkward
So they default to “busy work” because it feels safer.
But if you want to break past six figures as an online coach, you’ve got to simplify and focus on high-leverage activities.
To help you do that, I'm going to take you through a simple 3-step process I walked my client Mercedes through.
This process helped her quit her job and make over $30,000 in the first 2 months of working together.
But before we get into that, if you’re serious about landing high-ticket clients, I put together a free guide that gives you ‘15 Proven Ways to Find Your Next High-Ticket Coaching Client.’
Whether you’re just starting out or you’re looking to get more clients and grow your income, this guide will help you generate leads and build a six-figure business without burning out.
I’ve tested just about every strategy you can think of to get clients, and these are the top 15 I’ve used to build a thriving online coaching business in just 20 hours a week—and I’m giving it to you free.

Have you ever walked into a restaurant with a 10-page menu and somehow still felt like you didn’t know what to order?
That’s what most coaches are doing to their audience.
They’ve got a course, a workshop, a group program, a 1:1 offer, a $27 ebook, a free challenge—and their audience is thinking:
“Wait… what do you do?”
Now imagine walking into a restaurant with just one signature dish that everyone raves about. You’d know exactly what to order, right?
That’s the kind of clarity your audience needs if you want to grow your coaching business.
When you try to be everything to everyone, you end up being forgettable to everyone.
But the solution is simple…
Create one irresistible coaching offer.
Going back to my client Mercedes—she was a journalist for 15 years and now coaches experts on how to get featured in major media outlets like Business Insider, Forbes, and the Today Show.
When we were building out her coaching offer, we focused on solving one specific problem for one specific person.
She’s not trying to solve 50 different problems in 50 different ways for 10 different people.
If you want to get featured in a major media outlet like Business Insider, Mercedes is your girl.
She knows how to get you in touch with—and stand out to—the journalists that will get you featured.
After 15 years of being a journalist herself, she has a TON of connections that make your chances of getting featured almost guaranteed.
All of this makes it a no-brainer to hire her.
Here’s what makes a coaching offer truly irresistible:
It solves a real problem your ideal client is actively trying to fix (think: authority, visibility, more leads)
It’s clear, outcome-focused, and easy to understand
It feels like a “no-brainer” for the right person
Whether it’s a group program, a 1:1 coaching package, a course, or a membership—the format doesn’t matter as much as the focus.
Trying to juggle multiple offers spreads your time, energy, and message too thin.
There will come a time when you can add different versions of your offer down the road.
For example, turning your 1-1 coaching into a DIY online course for passive lead generation and sales.
The offer stays the same—the delivery changes.
And when YOU’RE unclear, your audience is even more confused.
So if you're stuck under six figures, your first move is this:
👉 Nail ONE offer
👉 For ONE type of person
👉 That solves ONE burning problem
👉 And gives them ONE clear transformation
Keep it simple. Make it clear. Make it a no-brainer.
Once your offer is dialed in, the next question becomes:
"How do you consistently get the right people in front of it?"
Imagine wanting a beautiful garden, but your strategy is to just toss seeds into the wind and hope something grows.
Sure, you’re doing something… but there’s no plan, no structure, and definitely no guarantee anything will grow.
Now instead, imagine you pick a spot with the perfect conditions. You plant the right seeds in the right soil, water them regularly, and maybe even whisper a few motivational quotes to your basil.
The difference here? You’re intentional.
And when you’re intentional and consistent, your garden grows.
That’s exactly how you need to think about lead generation as an online coach.
If you don’t have a predictable way to consistently get in front of and build trust with your ideal clients, you’ll always struggle to get clients and scale.
Here’s what real intentionality looks like:
Pick one platform where your target audience already hangs out
Share consistent, value-driven content that shifts their thinking and shows what’s possible
Offer a simple, no-brainer next step to dive deeper with you
This is exactly what Mercedes did.
She focused purely on Instagram—answering her audience’s biggest questions, sharing client success stories, and inviting people into a free session.
By sticking to this one simple lead generation system, she made $30,000 in her first two months and quit her job to go full-time as an online coach.
The goal isn’t to do more stuff.
It’s to build a simple system that generates leads consistently—so you can focus on what you do best: coaching your clients and growing your coaching business.
Imagine throwing a party expecting 20 people to show up… but you only invited 3.
Then getting frustrated because nobody came.
This is what most coaches do when trying to land high-ticket clients.
If you want clients, you’ve got to start conversations.
Build real relationships. And yes—invite people into your coaching offer.
Right now, think about the number of clients you’d love to have, then multiply it by 6.
That’s how many invites you need to make.
This is where most coaches get stuck.
They avoid the direct, vulnerable work of making offers because it feels salesy. Or scary. Or they're afraid of rejection.
So instead, they post and hope someone magically clicks their link and buys.
But hope is not a marketing strategy.
If you want to grow your online coaching business, making offers is the work.
Here’s a natural way to do it - use what I call the “If/Then Transition”:
“If you want (desired outcome), then (next step).”
Examples:
“If you want help landing your first 5 high-ticket clients, then join my free group where I break down the exact system I used to help others hit $10k months fast.”
“If you want help getting your kids to listen without yelling, then book a free session and I’ll walk you through the strategy that’s working for dozens of my clients right now.”
Now here’s a weekly rhythm to follow:
Reach out to 5 new people per day (Mon–Fri)
Follow up with 3–5 warm leads weekly
Create 3 value-packed pieces of content per week
Make 3–5 direct offers using the If/Then method
This rhythm keeps your pipeline full, your audience warm, and your business moving.
Because this is the work that actually makes you money as an online coach.
You don’t need to be pushy. Just present, consistent, and helpful.
Because if you’re not inviting people into your coaching offer consistently…
You’re not running a business—you’re running an expensive hobby.
And you’re meant for more than that.
You’re here to make a real impact.
So let’s grow your online coaching business the right way—with simplicity, consistency, and a system that works.
The truth is, growing a six-figure coaching business doesn’t require more hustle—it just requires the right focus.
One offer. One system. Real conversations. That’s it.
