How to Create a Lead Magnet That Actually Gets Clients

Lead magnets are not dead.

But the way most people create them probably should be.

A lot of coaches and experts spend weeks creating massive guides, ebooks, and checklists that try to teach everything they know. They might generate email subscribers, but those subscribers don't necessarily turn into clients.

The problem is simple: most lead magnets go wide and shallow when they should go narrow and deep.

Instead of creating a 30-page guide that lightly covers ten different problems, create something simple that helps your ideal client quickly solve one persistent problem.  Pasted text

What Makes a Good Lead Magnet?

A good lead magnet shouldn't just get someone onto your email list.

It should give them a quick win.

You want someone to download your resource, use it, and think:

"Wow. That actually helped me."

That small result builds trust and creates a natural bridge to your paid offer.

One of my clients, Jason, did exactly this with his futures trading business.

We identified a persistent problem his audience had: constantly second-guessing their trades. So instead of creating a giant guide to futures trading, we created a simple checklist designed to help traders evaluate a trade before making it.

He promoted the lead magnet through his YouTube content, and his 12th video helped generate his first $3,000 client when he had only 54 subscribers. By his 19th video, he had passed 1,000 subscribers and generated more than $20,000 through his channel and lead magnet strategy. Pasted text

You don't necessarily need more leads.

You need the right leads getting the right result.

Work Backwards From Your Paid Offer

Start with the thing you ultimately sell.

Then ask:

What is one persistent problem my ideal client has BEFORE they need my full solution?

If you help people create and sell online courses, for example, you could create a simple resource that helps them choose a profitable course idea.

Don't try to teach them how to choose the idea, structure the course, record it, price it, market it, build the funnel, and launch it.

Solve one problem.

Once you've helped them choose their course idea, they'll naturally encounter the next problems your paid offer can help them solve.

That's the point.

Turn Your Lead Magnet Into a Conversation

This is where most businesses leave money on the table.

Someone downloads the lead magnet, enters an automated email sequence…and then everybody sits around hoping they eventually buy something.

Instead, follow up around the result your lead magnet was designed to create.

Ask them if they used it. Ask whether it worked. Ask where they're stuck.

If your lead magnet helps someone choose their course idea, your follow-up could be as simple as:

"Hey, did you end up figuring out your course idea?"

Now you have context for a real conversation instead of randomly pitching someone on your email list. Pasted text

That's ultimately what a great lead magnet does:

Solve one persistent problem → create a quick win → build trust → start a conversation → uncover the next problem.

And if your paid offer solves that next problem, becoming a client becomes a much more logical next step.
