If your freebie isn’t bringing in high-ticket coaching clients, growing your email list, or making sale.
You don’t have a lead magnet - you have a glorified PDF.
I’ve helped hundreds of coaches create and fix their lead magnets.
Like Steve, who went from getting crickets to more opt-ins than ever before, just by making a few simple tweaks.
Building a great lead magnet isn’t hard - you’ve just been taught how to do it the wrong way.
So in this video, I’m going to break down:
Imagine going to Costco and being offered a free sample… of raw flour.
Look, I love Costco. Mostly for the free samples.
But that one? Hard pass.
Sure, flour is a key ingredient in many great things like cakes, noodles, tortillas…
But no one’s eating it by the spoonful.
On its own, it’s bland, boring, and honestly kind of weird.
Yet this is how most coaches build their lead magnets.
They give people something that’s technically part of their offer…
But it’s not enjoyable or valuable on its own. It’s just raw flour.
At the end of the day, your audience doesn’t care how much you know or how great your program is…
They only care about one thing:
Can you help me solve a problem I’m facing right now?
If your lead magnet doesn’t clearly answer that, they’re not going to opt in and they definitely aren’t going to buy anything from you.
People don’t want more information. They want a transformation they can feel even from a freebie.
Now, before we get into what makes a great lead magnet work…
If you’re serious about building an automated system to sell your coaching and courses - even while you sleep - I’ve got a free, in-depth training that breaks down every part of the process.
I’ll show you how to create products that practically sell themselves and set up an automated system that works for you 24/7.
It’s completely free, but I’ve been told it rivals people’s paid courses.

Now that you know why most freebies fail, how do you make one that actually works?
Years ago, there was this website called DoubleYourDating.com.
It helped men get better at dating and ultimately find the love of their life.
One of the biggest challenges that guys face is knowing when to make
“the move.”
(You know… the kiss.)
It’s a delicate dance.
Too soon and you’re a creep.
Too late and you’re in the friend-zone.
So, what do you do?
Enter: “The Kiss Test.”
A dead-simple lead magnet that made DoubleYourDating millions of dollars.
Here’s how it worked:
A guy signs up for the freebie.
Then, lands on a simple one-page PDF that explains this one simple move:
You lean in slightly...
If she pulls back - don’t go for it.
If she leans in - you’ve got the green light.
Now imagine a guy who’s been struggling with this for a while now reading that...
He thinks, “Oh… I could do that.”
Next date rolls around.
They’re at the door. Heart pounding.
He leans in…
She leans in…
Fireworks!
But here’s where it gets brilliant.
Yes, he got the kiss (mission accomplished). Credibility through the roof for the DoubleYourDating - because they actually helped him.
But now his brain’s going wild:
Cue the paid offer.
DoubleYourDating had products for every stage of the journey.
But it all started with solving one small, persistent problem.
This is the power of a real lead magnet.
One that:
âś… Solves a frustrating problem your audience actually feels
âś… Gives them a quick win
âś… Creates new, higher-quality problems they’ll want your help solving
Most lead magnets are just 30-page PDFs that collect dust.
But the ones that actually make you money?
They're short, simple, solve a real problem, and build trust with the creator.
Then it perfectly tees up your paid offer as the complete solution.
So if your lead magnet isn’t converting, don’t ask, "Is it polished enough?” or “Does my Canva design look nice?"...
And instead ask,
"Does it give my dream client a win they can feel before they ever pay me?"
That’s what The Kiss Test did so well.
So, whether you’re thinking about building a lead magnet or already have one, what is the “Kiss Test” version of your lead magnet?
👉 What’s that one persistent, frustrating problem your ideal client faces?
👉 And what’s the one simple move they could make right now to get past it?
Solve one real and consistent problem.
Create one quick win.
And let your paid offer solve everything that comes next.
That’s how you stop handing out raw flour and start serving up something they actually want more of.
Now, maybe you’ve already got a lead magnet you’re proud of.
It solves a real problem for your perfect client. It’s dialed in.
But people still aren’t opting in…
If that’s you, then you need to nail this next piece.
If people aren’t signing up for your freebie, the problem might not be the freebie itself…
It’s how you’re positioning it.
Most opt-in copy is too vague, fluffy, or just straight up confusing.
I’m sure you’ve seen it:
“Unlock your limitless potential.” or “Discover the secrets to elevate your next-level success.”
What does that even mean!?
And saying “Join Our Newsletter” isn’t any better.
If your dream client has to pause and figure out what you’re offering… you’ve already lost them.
You’ve got three seconds to make them care.
And if your headline doesn’t hit a real problem and promise a clear payoff - they’re gone.
So here’s a simple (and wildly effective) formula I like to use:
[PROBLEM]? Get my [SOLUTION] and [RESULT].
It’s short, direct, and taps into the exact psychological triggers that make someone say, “Yeah… I need that.”
Here’s what it looks like in action:
Notice what they all have in common?
âś… One tangible tool
âś… Targeting a specific pain point
âś… Leads to one clear transformation
There’s no fluff or jargon, just one clean sentence that makes people say, “I need this.”
This formula works so well because it speaks the exact language already running through your dream client’s mind.
You’re stepping right into the conversation they’re already having with themselves:
And that’s exactly what your lead magnet should do:
Position you as the answer they’ve been looking for.
You’re delivering on your promise by solving a real, persistent problem; and that instantly builds trust and credibility.
But by solving that first problem, you’re also revealing the next layer of problems your paid offer is designed to solve.
That’s how you build a targeted list of people who actually want what you’re selling - not just random subscribers looking for free stuff.
So take a hard look at your lead magnet and ask yourself:
Does this sound like something your dream client would say “yes” to in three seconds… or something they have to think about?
Because getting the opt-in is just the first step…
If you want a coaching business that can run without you being glued to your computer all day…
At the end of the day, your lead magnet isn’t just a freebie—it’s the doorway into your business.
If it’s not solving a real problem, creating a quick win, and building trust, it’s nothing more than digital dust.
But when you get it right? It changes everything.
Suddenly, the right people are raising their hands, joining your list, and leaning in because they trust you can help them.
So here’s your next step: stop giving away “raw flour” and start serving something your dream clients can actually use today.
Solve one real problem, and you’ll open the door to a line of paying clients tomorrow.
